Russia Intercepts 600 Drones After Massive Ukraine Attack on Moscow
In one of the biggest drone offensives since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukraine reportedly launched a large-scale drone attack targeting Russia’s capital region, Moscow, on Sunday morning. According to Russian officials, nearly 600 drones were used in the overnight assault, making it one of the most significant aerial attacks carried out by Ukraine so far in the conflict. The attack turned tragic for Indian nationals working in the Moscow region. The Indian Embassy in Russia confirmed that one Indian worker lost his life, while three others were injured during the strikes. The injured workers are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. Embassy officials quickly visited the affected area, met the injured individuals, and assured them of all possible support. In an official statement, the Indian Embassy expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the family of the deceased worker. The Embassy also said it is coordinating with local Russian authorities and the company employing the workers to ensure proper assistance and medical care for the injured. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky defended the operation, calling it a justified response to Russia’s continued attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilian areas. Zelensky stated that Ukraine’s long-range drones successfully reached the Moscow region and sent a strong message to Russia to end the ongoing war. His comments came just days after Russia reportedly carried out heavy drone and missile strikes on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, where at least 24 people were killed. On the other hand, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that its air defense systems successfully intercepted the majority of the drones. According to Russian authorities, 556 drones were shot down overnight, while around 30 more were intercepted later in the morning. The attacks reportedly targeted 14 different Russian regions, including areas near Crimea, the Black Sea, and the Sea of Azov. Russian officials also claimed that a total of four people died in the attacks, though independent verification of the numbers remains difficult. The latest escalation highlights the growing intensity of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with both sides increasingly relying on drone warfare to target strategic regions and infrastructure.
