₹212 Crore Paid, ₹1,333 Crore Approved for Chhattisgarh Under MGNREGA
May 2, 2026
A significant financial push has been approved for rural development in Chhattisgarh under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned ₹1,333 crore to help clear pending dues and meet the state’s growing demand for rural employment support.
Out of the total sanctioned amount, more than ₹800 crore has already been released specifically for wage payments. These wages are being transferred directly into the bank accounts of workers through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring transparency and reducing delays or leakages in payments. So far, ₹212 crore has already been credited to beneficiaries, providing immediate financial relief to lakhs of rural families who depend on MGNREGA for their livelihood.
The remaining funds are expected to be released in phases in the coming weeks. This continued flow of funds is likely to boost rural consumption, stabilize incomes, and strengthen the overall rural economy of the state.
A key focus of ongoing development efforts is the “Mor Gaon Mor Pani Maha Abhiyan,” a state initiative aimed at improving water conservation and supporting sustainable livelihoods. Under this campaign, projects such as Dabri (farm ponds), Nava Taria (new ponds), and other water conservation works are being prioritized. These initiatives are designed to improve groundwater levels, ensure better water availability for agriculture, and create additional employment opportunities for rural workers.
The state government, led by Vishnu Deo Sai, has placed strong emphasis on rural development. Through consistent implementation of MGNREGA, the government aims to generate employment, build durable rural infrastructure, and provide financial support to economically weaker sections.
Overall, this funding approval from the central government is expected to play a crucial role in accelerating development activities across rural Chhattisgarh. It not only addresses pending wage liabilities but also strengthens long-term efforts to improve livelihoods, enhance agricultural productivity, and uplift the standard of living for thousands of rural households.
